Skudde

The Skudde Sheep is an ancient breed, originally from East Prussia and the Baltic states.

The period of origin can probably be traced back to the Iron Age (900/700 BC) .
In fact, they are also called Viking Sheep because it was a domestic animal that moved with them. It is currently included among the breeds in danger of extinction .

Between 1930 and 1936, the number of registered sheep dropped from approximately 70,000 to 3,600.
And by 1945 the skudde were nearly extinct.
Thanks to some zoos and small breeders the breed was saved in time.
